About Dr. Ting
Physician by training, diver by choice, traveler whenever the schedule allows. This is the adventure half of the notebook.
Who's writing
I'm Dr. Ting. Medicine is what I do on weekdays; the ocean is what I do with everything else. I got certified because a friend dared me, kept diving because the first wall dive rearranged something in my head, and started writing trips down because I kept forgetting the details that mattered — which operator, which site, what I should have packed.
DocDiver is that notebook, made public. Each trip gets the same write-up: the facts, the diving, the photos and video, the rest days, what I'd do differently, and the practical notes. Between trips, the destination notes and tips pages hold the reference stuff.
What it isn't
- Not a booking site. I don't sell trips, take commissions, or run affiliate links. If that ever changes it'll say so on the page.
- Not training. Nothing here replaces a course or an instructor. If a tip on this site conflicts with what you were taught, your training wins.
- Not a review aggregator. When I name an operator or a site it's because I was there. When I haven't been, I say so.
What's here
- Adventures — the trip write-ups, with photos and videos. Filter by type or region.
- Dive destination notes — reference notes: seasons, conditions, logistics, operators.
- Tips & skills — buoyancy, gas, packing, planning, checklists.
- Portraits — the three dive-doctor looks, if you just wanted to see the pictures.
- DocTrader — the other half of my life: a live stock dashboard, a morning market update every trading day, and my trading playbook. Not financial advice.
The stack, for the curious
Plain HTML and CSS on GitHub Pages with a little JavaScript for the galleries. No framework, no tracking scripts, no cookie banner because there are no cookies. If a page loads slowly it's your connection — or my photos, which I try to keep under 400 KB each.

Corrections, questions, and “you have to dive this place” tips are all welcome. Trip reports especially — if you've been somewhere on my wish list, I'd like to hear how it went.
I read everything; replies take a few days, longer if I'm somewhere with more fish than signal.
Common questions
Can you recommend an operator in [place]?
If it's a place with a write-up under Adventures or notes under Dive Notes, it says who I dove with and why. If it isn't, I'll tell you I don't know rather than guess — but the questions to ask an operator work anywhere.
Can I use your photos?
Ask first. For personal, non-commercial use with a credit and a link back, the answer is usually yes.
Do you do guided trips or group travel?
Not currently. If that ever changes it'll be announced on the home page, and it'll be small.
Why “Doc”?
Because I am one. It stuck on a dive boat before it stuck on a domain name.
